FAQ's
Q. Do I have to take shots?
A. No. We have several options available to you that include treatments that do not use needles. Please call for details.
Q. Can I do this over the internet or over the phone?
A. No. Each patient must be seen, in person, by a qualified physician before any medications or treatments are granted.
Q. I heard these treatments can cost over a thousand dollars a month, is that true?
A. No. All patients are different however we have found that the majority, over 75% of our patients, invest less than 400 per month for a full Age Management Regimen. This includes all medications, labs, supplements, follow up office visits and everything else a patient needs to do our program successfully.
Q. Are you a real doctor's office?
A. Yes. We are actually located in the Medical Plaza in a real doctors office in Raleigh, NC on the Rex Hospital Campus. Our Medical Director is both a PhD and MD. Please see the "about us" page for more information.
Do you have a travel reimbursement?
Yes. If you live more than 50 miles from our office we offer a one time travel allowance of $100. If you are flying in from out of town please call us and we will do our best to work something out with you and help you find a good hotel.
Q. What happens if I stop treatment?
A. Nothing. You will continue to feel and look the way you did before the treatment and perhaps maintain the gains you have made while in treatment.
Q. How long do I have to continue treatment?
A. At Doctors Age Management, we have no contracts. You can do our program for as long as you like. We strongly recommend committing to at least 6 months on our Age Management Program as this will give you a good idea as to how the program works. Any less than this is not a real commitment and probably a waste of time.
Q. How do I get my medications and hormones?
A. Once you are examined and a treatment plan is established your medications, supplies, supplements, and hormones are shipped to you from our licensed pharmacy.
Q. What if I am already on someone else's program, can you manage me?
Yes. We have to have the details of your program, but we take over many programs for patients for a variety of reasons. It is quite common in our practice.
Q. Isn't this like taking steroids?
A. No. When on a proper medically based anti aging program you a given just enough hormones and medications to balance your system. Not shock it. Steroids in essence are an overdose of hormones usually 4 or 5 times the recommended therapeutic dose. When treating patients on an Age Management Protocol we only prescribe in "Therapeutic Ranges or Dosages". These dosages are replacement doses and bring your levels back to were they were, into a "normal range". In addition we do not use many of the medications and compounds that are considered steroids.
Q. Are these medications FDA approved?
A. Yes. We only prescribe medications that are manufactured in the US and approved for use by the FDA.
Q. What is Andropause?
A. Andropause is "male menopause". This adult onset condition unlike female menopause is gradual and begins in the 20's and continues throughout a man's lifetime.
Q. How will I know it is working?
A. Besides the obvious response to our program of looking and feeling better we will be sending you for follow up labs at least 4 times your first year. These blood tests will show us exactly where your levels are. Age Management is just that, management. We carefully monitor you and fine tune your body to its optimum levels. Beware of anti aging programs that let you simply vanish and do not provide you good follow up care and maintenance. Tweaking and adjusting an age management program is crucial to a successful program.
Q. Is this treatment covered by insurance?
A. Maybe. We do not file insurance for you however we will provide you the proper forms, codes, super bills and invoices for you to submit for reimbursement. Many of our patients have good success getting reimbursed for the diagnostic phase of our program. To manage your expectations you should be of the mind set that you will have to pay for this treatment yourself. Age Management is not for everybody.
Q. How is my privacy protected?
A. Doctors Age Management is a real medical practice and as such, we follow to the letter, all privacy laws to guard your personal information and protect your privacy.
Q. How old do I have to be to get tested?
A. Usually men over 35 and women over 40 are good candidates to at least get tested. Everyone is different. This does not mean that if you are a man of 32 and are suffering from the signs of Andropause you should not get tested. What this means is that this age range is where we have found it to be worth while to check your levels. Some are younger, some are older.
Q. Do these HGH and Testosterone products available over the internet work?
A. To the best of our knowledge, No. HGH (Human Growth Hormone) is very sensitive and must be kept refrigerated at all times. HGH can not live outside the human body and can not survive in the mouth. We do not comment on specific products however based on our research and our patient's feedback these OTC HGH releasers, stimulators and supplements have not been proven to work. If you read the label on these products it clearly stats: These statements (claims) have not been evaluated by the FDA. In addition who knows what is in them and where they are made. Please exercise common sense prior to purchasing these products. You may be throwing your money away?
Q. Do I have to take HGH?
A. No. HGH is for certain patients. Unfortunately many Age Management Websites push HGH so everybody thinks they can't look and feel younger without it. This is simply not true. HGH is a great tool and it works. 90% of our patients do not use HGH and don't need to use it. Please beware of any age management program that is pushing HGH before ever seeing your labs. Many times they just want your money. HGH is not for everybody and we have ways to increase your own HGH levels without using HGH.
Q. Is there something to increase my HGH without taking HGH?
A. Yes. We do have a real HGH releaser that is a pharmaceutical and a prescribed medication. This product is about half the cost of HGH and it works. Please call for details.
Q. What does medical anti aging do for body fat?
A. Our treatment protocol does address body fat specifically for those patients looking to lose fat. We prescribe various medications and hormones that counteract our body's ability to store fat and help accelerate its loss. Age Management Medicine is not just hormones. There are many medications and supplements that support a proper treatment plan. At Doctors Age Management, we use many medications in conjunction with hormones. These treatments are based on a patient's specific needs. We are never limited to just hormones.
Q. Do I have to diet and exercise?
A. No. However we strongly recommend you do. Based on our current patient results we can tell you that by watching your diet and exercising on a regular basis, you will reap superior benefits opposed to someone that is not exercising and watching what they eat. The doctor will discuss diet and exercise with you during your consultation. We take care of the whole person at Doctors Age Management and feel a balanced lifestyle and approach is best however we will not force a regimen upon you. The more you put in the more you get out.
Q. Will this treatment interfere with the medications I take now?
A. Not usually. However we need to understand your medical history before starting you on an Age Management regimen. Our doctors will look at your history and your current medications and be better able to advise you at that point.
Q. If I am already on a program can you manage it for me?
A. Yes we can. You will have to follow our protocol and we will have to evaluate your current program, its results and your labs. Please contact us and we would be happy to discuss it.
